The Tangent Galvanometer is an old PSSC teaching system design.Consisits of a flat aluminium plate held horizontal while a large coil of wire can be wound in space around it.The all aluminium construction ensures there can be no magnetic interference. A magnetic compass is placed on the plate and a DC current is passed through the coil to cause an interference between the earth's magnetic field caused by the coil.
